Sylvea Johnson is a young emerging artist from the Seacoast area of New Hampshire who has already amassed a variety of work, primarily based around building up shapes and forms in a mixture of neo-psychedelic colors and suggested/literal figurative drawings. Sylvea is heavily interested in promoting apophenia (the experience of seeing patterns in random data) and pareidolia (which is our condition to see faces and objects in forms such as clouds or inkblots) but also tackles tangible issues such as personal identity and gender politics. She has stated she tries to hypnotize the viewer into searching her art for an identity and that her process is heavily meditative, where the end product is something of a map or timeline of her psyche. She has already exhibited in a handful of exhibitions at ellO and has managed to bring unique color and depth to each show.
